This may come to a surprise, but I like music. Every year I get the same questions over and over, and they actually get funnier as time goes on, so I figured I'd clear up the confusion and share the story. The most common questions I get are : "Can I go with you?" "How do you get to do that!!" "Do you hook up with the bands, is that how you get back there?" "That's so dumb.. but really can I come?" and these come in all sorts of variations. The answer is a pretty long one but here it goes.
When I was in 7th and 8th grade, I was going through a really tough time and the cliche way to put it is music was there when no one else was. Go ahead and laugh, I've heard it all before. I started getting involved than most normal people do, and joined a bunch of street teams for labels and artists. For the musically challenged- a street team is a group of people in different areas, that promote music by using social networking, posters and stickers, and online blogging. I started going to a lot of concerts- one to two a month, and at these concerts, I'd pass out flyers, stickers, buttons and whatever else was sent to me from the label. I was getting huuuuge boxes filled with stuff and my mom was all like "Kelsey why are you getting boxes sent to you from Tennessee?"
Progressively, I started being more involved with a label called Fueled By Ramen, and I asked to be one of the teamers to work warped tour, which if you don't know, it's a tour that is about 50 bands that lasts the end of June through the second week of August. I was so pumped that I got to go, and was told to report to this guy named "Metal" cool name dude, and was allowed to bring one friend, so automatically I chose my concert buddy and one of my besties, the other Kelsey. This happened in summer 07, and since then, we have gone to warped every year, and for the first time we went to other locations this past week. In the beginning, our task was to hang up posters throughout the venue before doors open, and that has since changed to mainly staying at the tent and selling merch and watching bands side stage- tough life. This is a privilege I'm happy to have and my summer is always complete after I go to warped. I have so many memories from it, and every year it seems as if we've never left. If you like that sort of music, I encourage you to go, it's an awesome experience, just a really long day. The guy Metal, has turned out to be one of my good friends, and favorite story tellers :) Below are some pictures of our adventures over the years.
